The day ended with a visit to the facilities of warehouse 23, which is located at the northern end of the interior enclosure, on a plot of 12,656 m.2 perimeter fenced

Once there, the tour of the plant allowed us to see first-hand both the machinery and the extensive facilities, among which seven loading docks and cold spaces stand out. At this point, the Petaca Chico team has been able to explain on site the ambitious plant transformation project, which includes expanding to 3,000 m2 (more than double the current surface) the industrial cold surface, which will allow Petaca to have frozen storage capacity for 3,200 tons, a significant increase in cold storage of 2,200 tons in the entire province of Cádiz. Specifically, a part of these cold spaces will accommodate up to 700 tons at a temperature of -60º, intended for bluefin tuna; and the rest will be used for other fish and seafood, with a temperature of -25º.

In addition, the remaining rooms of the plant will be adapted to accommodate the production of cephalopods, which is currently produced between the aforementioned warehouse 21 of 2,500 m.2 of the Fiscal Precinct of Cádiz and the 7,000 m plant2 that Petaca Chico has in Conil, so both will also be able to assume growth in their production.

The project also includes the adaptation of the ship to the IFS quality parameters, a benchmark in the sector and necessary for export operations, as well as the MSC sustainable fishing certification.

For his part, Fran González thanked Petaca Chico for its investment effort and its commitment to the facilities of the Free Trade Zone, highlighting “the pride that it means for the business community of Cádiz to have a company that stands out for carrying the name of the province. around the world, after more than 30 years of experience in the fishing sector.”

For González, “with the expansion of the Petaca Chico facilities, it puts the finishing touch to a summer in which the implementation in the Tax Precinct of the company Sola Ricca has also been closed, which confirms that the Free Trade Zone is in the good path of promoting the activity of productive spaces, managing to attract new investments to the Bay and the entire province in general. Despite the difficult scenario we are experiencing due to COVID-19, we are reaping the fruits of the commitment to boost the Consortium's commercial activity and, as we see today, we are receiving a very positive response from our business community. This reaffirms us to continue working along the same lines even more intensely during the last quarter of the year and throughout 2022.”
